Motorola RMM2050 VHF 2W 5 Channel
The Motorola RMM2050 is a fantastic ergonomically designed 5-channel two way radio that operates on the FCC MURS designated VHF frequencies, including the famous BlueDot channel at channel position 1. With excellent audio quality, water & dust resistance and the standard Motorola 2-pin earpiece connector, the RMM2050 is an ideal choice for small businesses.
Audio Quality
Motorola RMU2040 has excellent audio quality providing clear and crisp audio meaning the RMM2050 can be used in challenging environments.
Durability & Water Resistance
Motorola RMM2050 conforms to MIL-STD-810 standard (military standard 810) which is a set of manufacturing, performance, robustness and endurance guidelines set by the US department of defense. That means you can be sure that the Motorola RMU2040 is durable enough to withstand even the most challenging conditions and environments. Motorola RMM2050 meets IP55 Ingres protection rating meaning it gives adequate dust-resistance and waterproofing from un-pressured water jets (i.e. light rain).
Frequencies, Channels & License
The Motorola RMM2050 has 5 pre-defined VHF frequencies that can be programmed into any of the 5 available channels in any order. These frequencies are designated by the FCC as the pre-defined MURS channels and are completely license-exempt.
CTCSS/DCS tones (also known as PL/DPL codes) help to exclude unwanted radio transmissions. There are 219 CTCSS/DCS tones including 6 customizable tones. By selecting a specific tone hearing unwanted radio transmissions is very unlikely.
Wallmart (also Sam's Club) Compatibility
Wallmart (and Sam's Club) uses a radio called Motorola RDM2070D. RDM2070D is exclusive to Wallmart and is not available for purchase. But the good news is that this radio, the Motorola RMM2050, is compatible with the RDM2070D. To make this radio work with the RDM2070D, some basic programming is required. There's an article on www.radioreference.com which outlines the frequency order and CTCSS tones needed to make the two compatible, and the steps to change this is the RMM2050 to match the CTCSS is in the downloadable user guide.
Default Programming
The Motorola RMM2050 is supplied programmed with all 5 channels pre-programmed with the famous Blue Dot channel at channel position #1 and the Green Dot channel at position #2. The remaining 3 channels are programmed to the other 3 MURS frequencies. All channels have the CTCSS tone 67.0 Hz.

Programming the channels is done by either directly programming the radio using advanced configuration mode (see the user guide), or by using the free programming software (you'll just need a HKKN4027 programming cable).
Cloning Programmed Channels
Once the radio is configured exactly as required, rather than programming every radio individually, the Motorola RMU2040 settings can be cloned using the PMLN6384 6-way charger, the PMLN6394 single charger (with a HKKN4028 radio to radio cloning cable), or by reading the radio then writing another using the free programming software (and a HKKN4027 programming cable).
Voice Announcements
The Motorola RMM2050 has voice annunciation meaning the radio announces events such as when the channel has been changed or when the battery is running low on power. The channel names can be customized (only be using the free programming software) to announce a customized channel name. The software uses text-to-speech to generate the channel name announcement file. When an earpiece is connected, the annunciation is also heard via the earpiece.
Call Tones
Motorola RMM2050 has 3 call tones which allow the user to notify the fleet of a call/important announcement which sends an alarm-type ring to the rest of the fleet. This feature needs to be programmed into the radio using the free programming software (HKKN4027 programming cable also required) Call tone can be assigned to any of the two programmable buttons next to the PTT.
